Wednesday’s Best WNBA Picks
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
Atlanta Dream at Minnesota Lynx (-8.5) €“ 153 O/U (-110/-110)
Today’s early WNBA game features the Minnesota Lynx hosting the Atlanta Dream in a matinee tilt tipping off at 1 pm ET. This is a matchup between one of the league’s best teams and one of the worst with the Lynx at 16-8 and the Dream at 7-16. Unsurprisingly, Minnesota is favored heavily at home to get a comfortable win. Instead, let’s look at the total.
Despite losing four of their last six games, the Lynx still have an elite defense and arguably the top unit in the league. Minnesota leads the WNBA in opposing field goal percentage (40.1%), three-point percentage (27.9%), assists per game (18.8), and defensive rating (93.3). It’s also second in points allowed per game (74.9). Furthermore, the Lynx play at the second-slowest pace in the league.
Minnesota’s shutdown defense and slower tempo €“ combined with an up-and-down offense scoring 81.0 PPG (7th in WNBA) €“ usually results in lower-scoring games. The Lynx are 15-7-2 to the Under this season. The Under has also cashed in six of their last seven games.
As for Atlanta, it has the worst offense in the WNBA and should seriously struggle to score against Minnesota’s stout defense. The Dream are last in points per game (75.0), field-goal percentage (40.8%), and assists per game (18.7) with the second-worst three-point percentage (30.2%).
When these teams faced off last month, the Lynx won a 68-55 slog of a game. The Under cashed easily in that one and we should see something similar today. Grab the Under as Minnesota should cruise to an easy win in a low-scoring contest.
WNBA Pick: Under 153 Total Points (-110)
Indiana Fever (-4) at Dallas Wings €“ 176.5 O/U (-110/-110)
Wednesday’s WNBA nightcap has Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever taking on the Dallas Wings. This will be the last WNBA regular season game until mid-August as the league takes its All-Star and Olympic breaks. So, let’s see how to bet on this matchup as you enjoy the action.
This game features arguably the WNBA’s two worst defenses. The Wings are allowing league-highs in opposing points per game (89.6), field goal percentage (46.8%), and assists per game (22.8) with the worst defensive rating. The Fever, meanwhile, are second-to-last in points allowed per game (86.7), defensive rating, and three-pointers allowed per game (8.6). Indiana is also allowing opponents to shoot 44.3% from the field and 34.9% from three (both ninth in the league).
Since we have two poor defenses, the Over is immediately in play if the offenses can take advantage of their favorable matchups. Well, that’s likely to happen with some capable scorers on both sides.
Caitlin Clark, averaging 16.8 PPG and 7.8 APG, headlines a Fever offense that’s putting up 81.3 PPG (5th in WNBA) while shooting 44.5% from the field (2nd). Indiana also has Kelsey Mitchell (17.1 PPG), Aliyah Boston (13.7), and NaLyssa Smith (11.6) to rely on offensively and exploit the Wings’ bottom-tier defense.
As for Dallas, it’s averaging 81.1 PPG (6th in the league) on 44.2% shooting (4th). The offense is led by one of the WNBA’s best playmakers, Arike Ogunbowale (22.2 PPG), and three other double-digit scorers. The Wings have been particularly much better offensively over the past month with Natasha Howard (16.6 PPG) back healthy and Odyssey Sims (16.4) joining as a mid-season signee.
Dallas is 15-8-1 to the over this season with eight of its last 10 games hitting the Over. Indiana is 16-9 to the over this year. Grab the Over in this matchup.
WNBA Pick: Over 176.5 Total Points (-110)
