Chivas Guadalajara generated a lot of expectation in the days running up to the start of the Leagues Cup. They entered the tournament as the overall leaders of the Liga MX and they were considered one of the favorites to win the tournament. However, it turned out very differently for the Mexican side who had a disastrous performance and ended up eliminated in the first round – two games and two defeats, to complete a resounding failure.

Days after elimination, veteran winger Isaac Brizuela admitted that Chivas were outclassed by Cincinnati and Sporting Kansas City, against whom they lost 1-3 and 0-1, during the group stage. The player also acknowledged that owe it to the fans to make up for that disappointment when the Liga MX resumes.

The team has to get used to winning again and have the mentality that every game is a final. We have remember who we are representing because, after the national team Chivas is the next biggest thing. We left a bad taste in the mouths of the fans who had high expectations for us and we didn’t pass the test. We didn’t know how to play, we have no excuses,” Brizuela told TUDN.
