One of the new faces of Inter Miami is Federico Redondo, who arrived at the South Florida franchise ahead of Major League Soccer 2024 and right now may be on the cusp of a unique event in his professional career. On Wednesday, he missed The Herons’ match against Charlotte FC, but it was made public that he is potentially set for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Although he is not among Javier Mascherano’s first 18 call-ups for the Argentina U-23 national team, he could end up participating in the Olympic Games if required by the coach.

At the post-match press conference against Charlotte, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino gave his opinion on this curious topic…

Redondo ‘on the reserve list’ for Argentina Olympic squad

“In Fede’s case, the fact that he is on the reserve list means that eventually, if Argentina have a problem with any of the 18 players, he is informed that he can be called up. We already know that for the Olympic Games it is not mandatory to release players, but regardless of this, the club is going to release him accordingly,” explained the coach.

It is important to note that the midfield includes Ezequiel Fernández (Boca Juniors), Santiago Hezze (Olympiacos), Cristian Medina (Boca Juniors) and Kevin Zenón (Boca Juniors), clearly showing that Mascherano is betting heavily on the work of the players coached by Diego Martínez. Further reinforcements were also confirmed: Gerónimo Rulli (GK), Nicolás Otamendi and Julián Álvarez.
