Following the painful defeat this past weekend against Atlanta United, Inter Miami players have resumed training in preparation for the upcoming match against Toronto FC. One of the significant uncertainties leading up to this fixture continues to revolve around the presence of new hero Lionel Messi, who has missed his last two matches due to tactical decisions aimed at avoiding greater injury risks.

Miami with or without Messi

In preparation for the match at the DRV PNK Stadium, Miami conducted training at their facilities on Tuesday. Despite Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba training with the rest of the squad, their participation in Wednesday’s clash remains uncertain.

The Argentine coach, Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, addressed the media and noted that due to the intense fixture schedule the team faces in the coming days, including the US Open Cup final, he must manage his squad’s workload. Consequently, he refrained from confirming Messi’s eagerly awaited return to action in the MLS.

“Every player on our roster wants to play every match. That is the mentality of our group. We have a lot of important matches in a short window of time, and one of my responsibilities as the coach is to care for my players and help them make the hard decisions that will give us the best chance of keeping everyone healthy during this busy run,” said Tata.

Beginning on Wednesday, we have six matches in 18 days, which is one match every three days, including the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final. Regarding Messi and Alba, both players will train in the full session today with the team and after that we’ll see if they’re available to play and to what extent.”
