The Louisiana native recently lost to Makhachev in his third attempt to win the title, but he could return for a last fight.

Dustin Poirier lost his last shot to a title, but he might want to leave the UFC and the mixed martial arts world as a fighter with a victory.

Before the fight for the lightweight title against Islam Makhachev, The Diamond admitted he would retire if he defeated the Dagestani champion. Still, things played out differently from his initial plans.

Poirier, arguably the fighter with the best resume to never become the champion -although he won the interim belt by defeating Max Holloway in 2019-, lost in the fifth round in a hard-fought war with Makhachev, who got his hand raised after submitting the American.

“I know I can compete with the best, but if I do fight again what am I fighting for?”, Poirier, 35, said after the fight.

“I’m not 100% but if this is my last fight, I want to dedicate this fight to the people who made me the man I am and that’s the women in my life”, he added.

Poirier targetting a last UFC fight: what did he say?

One month later, the Lafayette-bred talent has had time to think about his immediate future and plans. He hasn’t made any official decision yet, but he seems motivated enough to step into the octagon one final time.

The Diamond recently posted some tweets on his X account, including a couple regarding a possible comeback fight with former double champ Conor McGregor.

“Hey [Conor McGregor], it felt so nice, I did it twice ya bumskie”, he said. He also wrote “The last dance. Let them know”, and “Uno mas”, seemingly meaning he’s ready for a last fight.
